If you need help, do not under any circumstances expect them to be useful. The campus police department is worthless, mostly seems made up of a bunch of people who picked a campus department because they don't want to do anything besides bust kids with booze/drugs in the dorms.

There are shuttles that run pretty frequently and if you choose to walk, at least it's pretty. Remember how I said big campus? Getting from the bottom to the medical campus (the very top) can suck if you are in a hurry. Parking fucking sucks, which sucks extra when it's a commuter campus. You're almost guaranteed to need roommates throughout college, so I recommend at least your first year on campus so you can meet good friends to move off campus with. Housing is expensive both on and off campus. characters who like to go on campus to harass students about jesus or whatever but you can typically just ignore them and keep your headphones in. It feels easy to go about your business and be mostly left alone. If you're a loner and you like it that way, you'll be great at the U. That on its own can have consequences for your mental health and consequently your grades. Shit is soul crushing.Ĭommuter campus, if you don't live in the dorms or join greek life, finding friends can be a bit tough. You don't want to be left with debt and have a job that pays the same as a call center. Please consider having a monetization plan for your degree before you get deep into a major.

If you're in some sort of humanities program, they will tell you how great that major is and not help you figure out how to turn that into a good job. Like many college campuses, the U felt extremely active in terms of political discussion.Ĭareer services and academic advisors feel rather useless. Salt Lake City itself is rather left wing though, so you will likely encounter a good mix of political viewpoints on campus.

The campus feels pretty free of mormon/right wing influence, but all state laws are pretty heavily right wing. This includes the provisional (18-21 years of age) carry permit. You can legally carry a concealed handgun on campus for the purpose of self defense if you have a valid concealed carry permit.
#MY LIFE AT UNIVERSITY OF UTAH PRO#
Pro or con depending on your personal views. There are plenty of places to lock a bicycle up. The local restaurant scene and surprisingly the brewery scene is actually quite good. The Hinckley institute has good internship opportunities for most majors, I highly recommend doing one. Outside of downtown, UTA isn't the best but it's usually pretty reliable. Public transit works well for getting from campus to downtown. The life center has great fitness amenities and has dirt cheap rentals for outdoor equipment. Outdoor rec is great and there are campus programs for it, nice and big campus, buildings are pleasant to be in, food options are solid, most professors in my experience have been at least average and many great ones.
